As the Senior Art Director of CBS Interactive, I supported the Creative Director and SVP of Product. This included art direction and mentoring the design and production staff. In addition, I managed large scale UI/UX projects across various popular platforms and CBS All Access video streaming service. Responsibilities included user interface/experience/testing, prototyping, production art and developing interactive design solutions. I was entrusted to lead all projects from start to finish so all milestones were met.

Art directed, managed, designed and developed graphics for practically any assets that live on CBS.com. My incredible team and I showcased network initiatives and encouraged viewers to register and participate within the CBS site. We were in charge of the upkeep for 400+ domestic and international show assets for all platforms including IOS and OTT. These creations assisted the interaction within the site to increase video views as well as conversations around shows on social media platforms. Below are just a few examples that I had a chance to work on while at CBS Interactive.

show marquees

Marquee production was labor intensive! Our team was enlisted to explore ways to streamline this process for all of us on the production line and for the group as a whole. Below are examples of this process, LESS IS MORE! These small improvements made everyone's lives easier, especially my team.

before

List of items to produce for past marquees:
- imagery placement
- logo placement
- correct title copy, day and time
- correct iconography and copy for call to actions

after

List of items to produce for present marquees:
- show asset sized to new 16x9 ratio
- tile copy, day, time and cta is populated via HTML

show posters

The original show pages for primetime, daytime and others were flat and non-interactive. The Production and Design team collaborated together to create a robust Interactive design which allowed our users to see instant movement and action. The interaction and click rate increased exceedingly with this new look, which was a great step towards a savvy corporate site.

show lightning units

The production and product team were asked to create a marketing promotional grid area where we showcased a single or multiple show display. This would include videos, graphics and logo placements. This was a daunting task at first but the end result was a consistent design that looks on point with our competitors.

wireframes

The product team hit a bullseye on the first round of user-flows and wireframing. To the right is what my team worked with for the concepts below.

concepts

Everyday we promoted the latest episode of a show or a special event in these units. This included a quick conceptual design buildout turn around rate while keeping to the style guide of the shows.

show asset conversions

One of my many responsibilities was to make sure every show had a complete build out or as we called it: "asset conversions''. Every week we had to deliver 2 to 4 show buildouts to the Content Strategy Team. Each conversion took 4 - 6 days so we were constantly jungling what show would get delivered first. When you're building 217 domestic shows and 228 international shows for audiences you need to make this as simple as possible! So my colleague Tiffany and I came up with a solution of making things into individual smart objects in 2 Photoshop files. One for domestic audiences and the other for international audiences. By converting to smart objects we reduced the amount of assets being created by 45%.
Work smarter not harder - What a genius idea!

Growing into the ranks at CBS Interactive I learned how to adapt quickly to the many
hats I had to wear. I was project managing, art directing and designing UI and UX
for responsive web. Some of the many tasks that I worked on were Style Guides -
Design Systems, Visual Photoshop designs and layouts, Wireframes and Flowcharts.

design system - style guide - ui elements

We were given the task to improve our workflow efficiency across all of the CBS Interactive. Which meant - everything, everyone, everywhere! This included the development team, the marketing team and of course the design team. The process involved rethinking everything, from the smallest elements to the largest. The outcome of this was everyone is kept on the same page. It helped to speed up the designs so the entire product remains consistent and polished throughout all teams. At the end of the day: Any design system is better than no design system at all.

big brother - activity tracker with fitbit

We designed the first showcase of an interactive Fitbit scoreboard at CBS Interactive. This was an ongoing activity leaderboard app for the entire cast of all the Big Brother shows. What was great about this project was we introduced iconography to the design, which ended up being a big hit with the fans and the cast.

interactive rich media ads

For a couple of years we had to create Interactive rich media ads to sponsor - promote our primetime shows. The goal was to give a new, fresh, smart and strong visual presence that will get the users attention, and even better - make them remember the show thus sharing it on a social network or by mouth to ear. Below are a couple ads that were very rewarding for the shows and the interactive team.
